3.7 Engage parents / carers in the educative process
Describe a broad range of strategies for involving parents/carers in the educative process.
Connecting parents and carers in the education setting is an essential part of schooling
Parent evening
At the commencement of the year in term 1 parents were invited to a picnic evening so they could meet with teaching staff. This was a successful event and most enjoyable evening by both the parents and school staff.
Classroom open days
Whilst on prac I was involved with meeting parents on open classroom day which was held in conjunction with book week. Parents came into the classroom to look at their child's work that was pinned to the wall and looked through their study exercise books. This was a valuable time to meet with parents and talk about the achievements of their child. and show them the related work that their child had produced.
Phone calls
When students were injured on the sporting field I had to notify parents/grandparents that their child required medical attention for their injury and had to be collected from the school.
Notes/News letters home to family
As a teacher I had to hand out the school news, permission slips, swimming forms, incursion information slip letters for students to had on to their parents.
Parent helpers/Volunteers
One parent of a student in my prac class came into the school to assist students in community with pot planting and woodwork. There were also mentors that came in for students as well.Parent and Volunteers also came in as catered for the breakfast club on certain mornings.
Assembly Items and Presentations
It was encouraged that parents attended student assemblies to see their child participate in the Arts Music and the receiving of merit certificates for their achievements.
Participation in excursions and school events such as sport carnivals and gala day
Parents were encouraged to attend sporting events that were organised for in-school and inter-school days.
